Researching the local business environment for Epsom & Ewell Borough Council
The economic development team at Epsom & Ewell Borough Council wanted support to better understand the business environment in the borough. This was particularly pertinent as the council were in a process of considering redevelopment opportunities for large warehousing and light industrial zones within the borough. In light of this, they wished to get updated and detailed information on the value of businesses based on these sites and the role they played in the wider local economy. This would provide an informed picture on which decisions could then be made.
Our resultant report provided a comprehensive breakdown of the local business environment. We provided an overview of the borough economy according to high-level statistics, before going into detail into sectors (looking at the key sectors and identifying growth and specialisation), companies (including key businesses, proportions according to business size and identifying fast-growing and standout firms), jobs (exploring employment growth, wages, skills supply and staffing patterns), before concluding with an analysis of the pandemic impact on the local economy.
