Summary of Project
MVDC provides over 2,000 car parking spaces across 22 car parks in Ashtead, Bookham, Dorking and Leatherhead. As set out in MVDC’s Car Parking Strategy 2018-2023, it is a key priority for our car parks to respond to the increased demand for electric vehicle charging points.
The funding received from Coast to Capital is going to enable the provision of 90 public EV charging bays for residents, workers, shoppers and visitors alike in Mole Valley District Council (MVDC)’s car parks. This project will help to address one of the stated barriers to shifting to electric vehicles for residents, businesses and visitors to Mole Valley.
The benefits of increasing electric vehicle usage in place of diesel and petrol vehicles are well documented in terms of improved air quality and contributing towards a reduction in carbon emissions. In addition, the provision of electric charging points within and close to a town centre will increase dwell time of visitors and creates opportunities for the local High Street economy to capture additional spend.
