Tim Wates has just been appointed a UK Business Ambassador by the Prime Minister.

Coast to Capital vice chairman Tim Wates has just been appointed a UK Business Ambassador by the Prime Minister. The Business Ambassadors Group was established in 2008.

As an infrastructure and construction specialist, Mr Wates joins a select group of high profile business leaders who will assist high growth and innovative businesses (especially SME's), to create high value opportunities for large investments and increase inward investment in the UK.

Tim commenced his career with Cazenove & Co. in the City of London, subsequently joining Wates Group, where he is a director and Chairman of The Wates Family Council, which is the Wates Group Shareholders' forum.

Wates Group turns over around £1 billion per annum via five business units. The business has particular expertise in education, prisons, commercial buildings, affordable housing, retail, office fit-out and investment in land and housing. In both 2009 and 2010 the Company was awarded "Major Contractor of the Year" at the Building Magazine awards.

Speaking of his appointment Tim said: "I have always been keen to share my business experience for the benefit of others. The UK construction and infrastructure sector has much to offer and I hope in my new role as Business Ambassador to encourage this sector to access new opportunities in international markets and encourage inward investment into the UK. This is very complementary to the goals of Coast to Capital LEP."

Ron Crank Chief Executive, Coast to Capital said "I am delighted to learn of Tim's appointment to this important ambassadorial role for the UK. We are privileged to have him as vice chairman of the Coast to Capital Board where he has been instrumental in driving forward our growth plans across the Coast to Capital area."
